Long long ago, in a place far far away….Okay, it was something like 1997 and just 75 miles south of here that I decided that I would enact “TV FREE SUNDAY”. The reason for this was that I had seen enough of Bob Villa for a lifetime of torture, and I needed a “day of rest” from the demonic restorations (HEY BOB!!! How much does that timbre weight???).
Flash forward ten years. I’ve bought my first PC (a 1998 Micron PII 350), moved back to the city, built my second PC (PIII 733), built my first AMD (Athlon1.4?), and countless others. I also attempted to switch back to Mac (as Apple faithful remember, the early 90’s were not good to us Mac-addicts) with a white iMac, then a MacBookPro. Finding that Mac no longer worked with my world, I had to retreat to the dark side once again with a Dell laptop. This, I must add, is the fastest machine I’ve ever owned. It will be faster once I add a SSD and a T9300, but that’s for another day entirely.
So this brings me to today, December 27th, 2008. I decided this morning while making apricot scones (the fat-free faithful need not apply) that I should try to go for one day a week without the computer. Television is not a problem for me, as I typically only watch two hours a week of Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters. And seeing that the network has a habit of only running about 20 new episodes a year, it’s a lot less than one would expect.
What will I do with my time? Well, my first plan of action is to go see Milk, which (gasp!) is playing just down the street. I also expect to finally pick up the dining room (it’s currently a horizontal filing cabinet) and put away all the laundry I’ve done recently (sorry, I’m not going to iron). I’ll call (Audi) Mike to go grab some dinner.
I think that’s it for now, a plan for one Sunday. I don’t want to over do it the first weekend (in addition to the usual workout, car wash, cooking food, and driving down to see my parents).
I’ll report back on Monday and let you know how it all goes.
