What is Steve Job’s fucking problem???

Posted in Uncategorized on January 5, 2009 by 2xist

If  you haven’t read THE Letter from Apple CEO Steve Jobs let me just cut to the chase and give you the readers digest version, Steve Jobs is sick.  What more, he seems to be an arrogant S.O.B. in the face of his customers, investors, and company (in that order) by virtue of the direct statement “So now I’ve said more than I wanted to say, and all that I am going to say, about this.”  If you’re one of the Mac faithful (clones, droids, or worshipers) may I remind you that I am an Apple fan and customer also.  So don’t bother flaming my ass with comments, because I’ll delete them faster than a negative product review on Apple’s website. What bothers me about Steve’s attitude at this moment is that something as simple as an erroneous news article (like the accidental publishing of his prepared obit by a news agency, or even a rumor that he’s had a heart attack) can send Apple stock down faster than an intern on Clinton’s crotch (either one, they’re both fair game).  Okay, he’s opened up.  He’s sick.  That’s about all you can gleam from his vague statements of his health.  If he’s opening up at this point (not that he could hide inside his skeletal frame any longer) is this good or bad?  He didn’t open up about his pancreas cancer, which carries a mortality rate of slim to none (okay, it’s more like 99%, but why split hairs?)  He didn’t tell anyone at work until after he had his Whipple procedure done (uh, nothing like having your guts rearranged for shits and giggles).  Is his opening up now to calm the ranks of news reporters that will hound his ass like Britney Spears on a bender until he’s dead?  I’m not so faithful of his always well scripted words anymore.

Ben said that “…and John all need to do this survey…” I don’t think he was talking about me, but just in case…

Have you had alcohol this past week?
Almost everyday.

Could you cry right now?
No, I really don’t care.

What were you doing this morning at 7am?
Sleeping.

What do you need to be doing right now?
It’s midnight, not much.

Is there anything silver near you?
Three silvered glass Christmas trees, they looks like peni to me.

What were you doing at 1 AM this morning?
It’s not here yet, but I’m sure I’ll still be reprogramming a computer.

Song playing right now?
The refrigerator is humming away, that’s about it.

What does your last text message in your inbox say?
What’s a text message?

Where were you Friday night?
At home recovering from eye surgery.

Has anyone ever mistaken you for someone else?
Yeah, a guy named David that looks just like me.  We worked together in a restaurant, but had to work separate shifts because it was too easy to get us mixed up.

Next vacation you’ re going on?
Vacation?  What’s that???  I have no kids or spouse, my life is a vacation.

Do you like to text or call more?
Call, it’s more intimate; some find social contact to be annoying, so I get some satisfaction out of it.

What’s the closest blue object to you?
Thomas, in a blue sweatshirt.

Could you forgive your best friend for sleeping with your bf/gf?
Been there, done that.  Did her cousin too.

Do you like the color orange?
Orange is a polarizing colour, so yeah, I wear it well.

Sometimes, do you wish you were someone else?
Most people have more baggage than me, so NO that wouldn’t be a good idea.

What is the weather like today?
Cold and rainy.

Who did you last talk to on the phone?
Don’t remember, it’s been a few days.

Where will you be in a hour?
In bed.

When was the last time you danced with a boy/girl?
Don’t remember, it’s been quite a while.  It was probably with a girl, and we probably got nasty with it.

How late did you stay up last night and why?
Midnight, I turn into a sleepy pumpkin about then.

Whose bed did you sleep in last night?
Mine.

Have you held hands with anyone in the past week?
The Dr. that wanted to pray with me before my surgery.  Whatever floats his boat, he did a good job.

What are you doing tomorrow?
Probably going to see my parents.

Have you ever lost a friend?
Yeah, several.  But not on purpose.

Ever go camping?
No, I don’t do Motel 8.

Are you someone’s best friend?
Yes.

When is your birthday?
At some point during December, but we celebrate it during November.  Sometimes my sister thinks I’m a year older about May or  June, so I have my doubts about all this.

Have you ever tried an ice cream spider?
Yeah, but they give me gas.

Do you get jealous easily?
No, it take too much time and energy.

Is your mom within a meter radius of you?
Uh, no thank TFSM.

What is bothering you right now?
This is taking to long to complete.

Who was the last person to play with your hair and when?
Katie, I paid her $40 to do it too.

I bet you’re missing someone right now?
I bet you’re wrong.

Is there a high chance of you going out to the movies soon?
No.

Ever had a near death experience?
Several, I even joke about them.  But the ER techs take it way to seriously sometimes.  I mean really, would you rather die in the ER or in the bathroom like Elvis?

Who was your last message to?
I don’t SMS, we already went over this.

Do you have anyone who you consider a brother or sister but they aren’t?
No, but I have a sister that I don’t consider at all.

It’s Friday at noon, where are you usually?
Leaving work.

Do you have to sleep with something?
A t-shirt, sleepy pants, and a blanket.

What are your plans for today?
See the answer above.

When was the last time you were up all night?
A couple weeks ago, it was not a pretty sight.

Are you wearing make-up?
Does lip balm count?

Do you have any sisters?
Three, depending on how you count.  I only know two, and only consider one.  Didn’t we already go over this?

Are any of your friends taller than you?
A few, not many though.

Sounds Familiar, smells familiar

Posted in Uncategorized on January 2, 2009 by 2xist

For those of you who have never walked into a “record shop”, you have no idea what I’m about to talk about, so I urge you to find out on your own.

My brother wanted a P!nk CD for Christmas, turns out all the stores that carry CDs near him (like Hell-Mart) didn’t carry the unedited version (see the reason here).  So it’s up to big brother in the not so big city to find the right version.  I went to Sounds Familiar and nearly fainted when I stepped inside.  Not only does it look like a record shop, it SMELLS LIKE A RECORD SHOP!!!  I felt like I was 16 again, perusing the bins at The Music Staff for everything imaginable.

Needless to say, I’m going back to investigate thier inventory.

The return of vinyl records…

Okay, honestly, vinyl never went away. But I consider Amazon.com to be a pretty significant seller and to see vinyl records for sale, in their own “department“, is something special. I sort of expect The Killers to release on vinyl, and maybe something special like The Smiths singles collection to be there too, but I’m not expecting the movie sound track from Twilight to be available.

Go figure.

52 Nights Unplugged…

Long long ago, in a place far far away….Okay, it was something like 1997 and just 75 miles south of here that I decided that I would enact “TV FREE SUNDAY”. The reason for this was that I had seen enough of Bob Villa for a lifetime of torture, and I needed a “day of rest” from the demonic restorations (HEY BOB!!! How much does that timbre weight???).

Flash forward ten years. I’ve bought my first PC (a 1998 Micron PII 350), moved back to the city, built my second PC (PIII 733), built my first AMD (Athlon1.4?), and countless others. I also attempted to switch back to Mac (as Apple faithful remember, the early 90’s were not good to us Mac-addicts) with a white iMac, then a MacBookPro. Finding that Mac no longer worked with my world, I had to retreat to the dark side once again with a Dell laptop. This, I must add, is the fastest machine I’ve ever owned. It will be faster once I add a SSD and a T9300, but that’s for another day entirely.

So this brings me to today, December 27th, 2008. I decided this morning while making apricot scones (the fat-free faithful need not apply) that I should try to go for one day a week without the computer. Television is not a problem for me, as I typically only watch two hours a week of Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters. And seeing that the network has a habit of only running about 20 new episodes a year, it’s a lot less than one would expect.

What will I do with my time? Well, my first plan of action is to go see Milk, which (gasp!) is playing just down the street. I also expect to finally pick up the dining room (it’s currently a horizontal filing cabinet) and put away all the laundry I’ve done recently (sorry, I’m not going to iron). I’ll call (Audi) Mike to go grab some dinner.

I think that’s it for now, a plan for one Sunday. I don’t want to over do it the first weekend (in addition to the usual workout, car wash, cooking food, and driving down to see my parents).

I’ll report back on Monday and let you know how it all goes.

Flugle this!

Flugle

I got the flu shot this year, just as usual. A week later, I got a nasty case of the flu not covered in this years shot. I’m bored out of my mind, sick and tired of staying home, and have been hitting someone’s blog so much that I’m throwing his traffic off (yes, I’m that bored.) I thought I’d share with everyone Flugle or as it’s really known as Google Flu Trends. It’s neat how you can see your own state, and others. It’s also neat how it picked up the sudden outbreak of the flu here in my little city of Columbia, just enough that it threw the trend up for a few days. I think I’ll stuff my face with turkey until I pass out this year, I’ve got nothing better to do.
